POSITION SUMMARYSpencer Fane has an opening in our Washington, D.C. office for a Patent Litigation Associate attorney with 3-5 years of experience. Applicants should have experience assisting in all aspects of patent litigation matters, including performing legal research, drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery requests, and participating in trial preparation, pre-trial and trial activities. The ideal candidate will have a technical background (i.e. Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Life Sciences). This position provides hands-on litigation experience and opportunities for accelerated career development. Candidates must have strong legal writing skills and must be capable of maintaining a demanding workload. Successful candidates will be self-starters and team players and will be able to manage their time between multiple matters while producing high quality work on a consistent basis. QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school with an excellent academic record
  • Admission to the D.C. bar (or state bar in which the attorney is practicing)
  • Admission to the USPTO strongly preferred
  • Ability to interface directly with attorneys and clients
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organization skills
  • Outstanding judgement

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Position is generally sedentary in nature; involves sitting most of the time, but may involve the need for inter-office mobility for brief periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally or routinely lift up to 10 – 20 lbs.
  • Ability to efficiently communicate
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions required
  • Ability to see and read PC screens, detect color coding, read fine print, and/or normal type size print
