Overview

Nelson Mullins is seeking a Communications Associate to join its Communications group in the Washington, DC office. As an AmLaw100 firm, this will offer a unique opportunity to a lateral associate who wants to be part of a dynamic and growing team.

A Day in the Life

Located along Constitution Avenue just across from the U.S. Capitol, the Washington office is staffed with individuals with years of experience at the forefront of political, business, litigation, regulatory, and diplomatic developments.

Understanding how government works and how it impacts the clients of Nelson Mullins is a key service that the Washington office provides. Nelson Mullins represents national and global clients with needs closely tied to the Administration, Congress, regulatory agencies, and the capitals international organizations. Washington office corporate attorneys have transactional experience ranging from banking and securities regulation, including investment company and broker/dealer issues, to commercial real estate and affordable housing. Washington office litigation attorneys often represent clients in matters of federal agency law and telecommunications.

We Know You

With 1 to 2 years of experience, you have a background in communications and technology law and policy. As part of the team in Washington, DC, you will work with colleagues and a diverse array of clients on:

  • drafting pleadings and advocating at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and state public utility commissions;
  • advising clients on federal Universal Service Fund programs and contributions, including representation in audits, investigations and enforcement;
  • advising clients on consumer protection related matters, including privacy, terms of service, accessibility, broadband transparency, including drafting policies and procedures;
  • preparation and prosecution of applications before the FCC, USAC and state public utility commissions;
  • negotiation and drafting of communications, IoT and technology contracts;
  • seeking authorization for major acquisitions and other transactions before the FCC and other Executive Branch agencies; and
  • litigation involving communications-related matters.

As part of our team, you will have a high degree of responsibility in counseling clients on legal, policy, compliance and emerging technology matters. Your background includes involvement in communications and consumer protection/privacy regulatory matters, transactions, and/or litigation/enforcement matters. You have a keen interest in communications and technology issues, and you work well independently or as part of a team, depending on the nature of the matter. You have excellent academic credentials with strong writing, analytical, and communications skills. You are a member of the DC Bar or eligible to be admitted to the DC Bar.
