Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the worlds leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Senior Paralegal for our Litigation Practice Group. This position will be responsible for supporting and/or managing various sizes of labor and employment matters, as well as specific projects supporting those matters, which may include document management, technological applications, trial support, and editorial and research functions. The Senior Paralegal is also responsible for those projects delegated to them by the Manager of Legal Practice Support and Attorneys.

This position will reside in the Washington office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under general supervision, prepare and file nonimmigrant and immigrant visa petitions, labor certification (PERM) applications and applications for permanent residency and secondary benefits for foreign nationals.

  • Organize and prepare petition packets for filing.

  • May prepare and file global business visa and work permit applications.

  • Communicate with employees, managers and human resources professionals to gather needed information and documents required for the preparation of petitions and applications.

  • Prepare correspondence.

  • Prepare and maintain current status reports.

  • Track and manage critical deadlines.

  • Enter and maintain data in immigration case management system.

  • Organize and maintain immigration files.

  • Maintain hard copy files and documents as required to support all immigration activity on behalf of clients.

  • Work with attorneys and Regional Paralegal Manager to manage caseload from intake through processing and filing.

  • Ensure that clients are kept apprised of the progress of their cases.

  • Respond to immigration inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Attend continuing education programs/seminars.

  • Attend firm team/group meetings and events.

  • Enter time into Carpe Diem and adhere to submission deadlines.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; paralegal certificate preferred but not required

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience including experience and understanding of FINRA

  • Adhering to legal and ethical principles that guide paralegal conduct, including, but not limited to: the unauthorized practice of law; confidentiality and attorney-client privilege; conflicts of interest

  • Aptitude for general legal terminology, basic legal principles, and legal processes

  • Knowledge of court rules, procedures and protocols as well as rules of evidence, including Federal rules governing electronic discovery

  • Written and verbal communication skills in team atmosphere

  • Customer service and Interpersonal skills

  • Project management and organizational skills as well as problem solving skills

  • Ability to adapt to change and balance competing demands

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and professional publications, prepare business correspondence, proposals and reports, effectively present information to groups, and respond to question from peers, managers, clients and vendors

  • Ability to apply the Uniform System of Citation

  • Knowledge of court rules, procedures and protocols

  • Rules of evidence, including Federal rules governing electronic discovery

  • Document Management such as iManage

  • MS-Office (Outlook, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access)

  • Interwoven, Adobe Reader, FileMaker Pro, Full Authority, Acrobat Writer, Folio Views, Legal MacPac

  • Practice Group: IPROView, Litigator's Notebook, LiveNote, Concordance, CaseMap, TimeMap, LiveNote, Summation Blaze, Sanction II

  • Research Software: Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw, West Check, Lawbase

  • Accounting Software: CarpeDiem
