Salary Range: $195,000 $240,500*

*The salary range is the one that Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP reasonably expects to pay for this position. JOB SUMMARY:

The Associate Director of Attorney Development and Diversity shares responsibility with the Senior Director of Attorney Development and Diversity for all matters relating to attorney development, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Acts as the second in command to the Senior Director, ensuring day-to-day operations of the department are timely, efficient and delivering quality results.

  • Manages Attorney Development departmental projects through oversight of the Attorney Development Program Manager and Attorney Development Specialist on all department functions:

    • Associate review and year-end compensation process; data management.

    • Associate secondments (e.g., City Attorney Program, client, etc.).

    • Associate surveys (e.g., AmLaw Midlevel Associate Survey, Vault, etc.).

    • Bar licensure.

    • Conference and sponsorship management.

    • Departmental budgetary oversight.

    • Development and Retention Committee collaborative efforts.

    • First Year Committee collaborative efforts.

    • Flagship training programs (NITA Deposition Training Program, New Attorney Retreat, etc.).

    • Hours Analysis and reporting.

    • Mentoring program.

    • Onboarding and training, including working across the firm to implement changes learned from monthly surveys.

    • One-on-one associate meetings: hosting; follow-up and reporting on monthly associate needs.

    • Staffing needs and process analysis.

  • Manages Diversity departmental projects through oversight of the Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator on all department functions:

    • Affinity group leadership, including DEI retreat management.

    • Conference and sponsorship management.

    • DEI client and industry survey management (i.e., ABA Model Diversity Survey, Mansfield, etc.); industry certifications (e.g., The State Bar of Californias DEI Leadership Seal, LCLDs Leadership Pledge, etc.).

    • DEI data management for client, industry and committee reporting.

    • DEI-related training programs (e.g., Implicit Bias training series for Associate Review and Recruiting committees).

    • Departmental budgetary oversight.

    • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee collaborative efforts.

    • Diversity Strategic Plan management.

    • Heritage Month recognition; programming support.

    • Hours analysis and reporting.

    • Industry nominations.

    • Mentoring program.

    • Staffing needs/analysis.

GENERAL FIRM SUPPORT:

  • Works with the Development and Retention Committee co-chairs and Attorney Development Program Manager to ensure that all committee and related task force initiatives are supported. Ensures that innovative programming ideas are placed before the committee and co-chairs for consideration. Analyzes current trainings to provide recommendations to the firm for future efforts.

  • Supports the First Year Committee Chair and Attorney Development Program Manager to ensure that all incoming lawyer staffing needs are met and supported; provides analysis of staffed matters twice annually in preparation for the associate review cycle.

  • Manages team to ensure all job functions are met including but not limited to elevating the firms mentoring program (on efficacy, programming, etc.); implementing onboarding, training, and retention programming to further support incoming attorneys; ensuring the firms online promotional material is updated; manages the teams SharePoint resources.

  • Plans and coordinates experiences at various attorney development and diversity conferences while ensuring team colleagues continue to develop in their firm roles.

  • Conducts one-on-one discussions with assigned lawyers; collaborates across the team to discuss best practices and needs for targeted lawyers; reports on themes and elevates critical needs to ensure attorneys are supported.

  • Seeks and coordinates opportunities for attorneys to engage with the broader legal industry in attorney development and diversity, equity, and inclusion work.

  • Collaborates with the firms Diversity Strategic Plan task force on all initiatives; supports the Diversity Strategic Plan goals and objectives.

  • While collaborating with the firms Legal Recruiting team, represents the firm at events, outreach efforts, and on-campus gatherings; attends the firms Recruiting Committee meetings to provide support.

  • Provides ongoing project leadership among multiple attorney development and diversity initiatives which includes managing timelines and project deliverables.

  • Drafts proposals and agendas for attorney development and diversity programs and initiatives, including proposals for submission to the Management Committee and other members of firm management.

  • Drafts a wide variety of attorney development and diversity-related communications for both internal and external audiences.

  • In conjunction with marketing, oversees external communications including social media posts, marketing pieces, and responses to media inquiries.

  • Works with the Senior Director of Attorney Development & Diversity, relevant committees, and others to identify new and innovative strategies to enhance attorney development and diversity efforts at the firm and in the legal profession at large.

  • Reviews and assesses requests to financially sponsor external attorney development and diversity organizations and conferences.

  • Collaborates with professionals at all levels of the firms administrative departments, including Legal Recruiting, Marketing & Business Development, Finance & Accounting, General Counsel, Human Resources, and others to exchange information and coordinate department initiatives and operations.

  • Completes special projects regarding various issues as needed for the Attorney Development and Diversity Department.

  • Engages and attends ongoing ALFDP, NALP, and PDC meetings and conferences; shares content learned with the team.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required; Advanced degree preferred.

  • A minimum of five years of professional development or diversity experience in a law firm or professional services environment.

  • Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word).

  • Fluency with Attorney recruiting software and Human Resource Information Systems preferred.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, interacting professionally with others.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop partnerships with attorneys, professionals, and peers while providing excellent customer service.

  • Ability to be available, as needed, to work extended hours, nights, weekends.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
