This non-exempt employee will organize and manage various of medical records, analyze medical records, assist in preparation of and responses to discovery requests, analyze medical literature, expert in research, and assisting in preparation for trial.

Essential Duties

  • Provides consultation, research, and investigation of medical records.
  • Provides medical record chronology, summary, and/or analysis.
  • Research medical literature for cases.
  • Provides anatomy and pathophysiology education to attorneys.
  • Analyzes pre-deposition and post-deposition transcript data on expert witnesses.
  • Provides pre-trial and trial support for attorneys.
  • Investigates potential medical billing irregularities.
  • Researches and recommends medical experts.
  • Provides data and assistance to medical experts.
  • Conducts document reviews.
  • Direct contact with clients.

Other Duties

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship

The Nurse paralegal reports to the Office Administrator or Office Supervisor.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience
The Paralegal should be familiar with effective administrative processes and possess the ability to manage a multitude of tasks and deals simultaneously. This employee should be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Has full understanding HIPPA compliance. Understands and complies with all other related regulatory mandates. Nursing background and/or experience in risk/claims management.

  • Proficient understanding and utilization of medical terminology, anatomy, laboratory testing, and medications required.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to translate difficult concepts into simple terms.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a variety of work styles.
  • Must be able to work with minimal direction with the ability to multitask.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical skills, and attention to detail.

Education
The Nurse Paralegal must have a paralegal certification from an ABA approved school and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Physical Demands

Must be able to move around the office up to 15% of the time to make copies, fax, file, etc.

Remains stationary at least 85% of the time; this position constantly operates computers and other office productivity machines (e.g., fax machine, copier, printer, etc.); occasionally required to move documents or files weighing up to 15 lbs.; this position requires constant communication and exchange of information with the Firm attorneys, clients and staff; this position must be able to inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 80% of the time.
