About the Role

The Manager of Attorney Development and Programs is an integral part of Lathams Attorney Development team. This role will be responsible for overseeing all attorney development for the assigned office, while leading the Attorney Development staff in their professional development endeavors; organizing, assigning, delegating, and coordinating the work of the staff to ensure department objectives are met timely and accurately. This role will be located in our Washington, D.C. office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the strategic initiatives of the Associates Committee, including suggesting and implementing programs and initiatives related to morale and retention
  • Providing continuous benchmarking and gathering best practices information through participation in local, regional, and national associations
  • Working with the Manager of Attorney Recruiting to coordinate the orientation of new attorneys, including fall associate class onboarding
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with local Associates Committee members, Office Managing Partners, Local Department Chairs, Practice Group Chairs, as well as the Global Attorney Development Department regarding the ongoing associate development needs of the office; meeting regularly with these groups to discuss ongoing needs and issues
  • Managing work assignments for unassigned associates and summer associates, which includes frequent contact with unassigned associates regular contact with partners, counsel and assigned associates; maintaining data and reports to track book assignments and associate pace, reviewing weekly work reports from unassigned associates, working with the Associates Committee regularly on staffing, maintaining department roster, and monitoring pace

  • Possess knowledge of legal employment issues
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership skills (i.e., organizing, planning, problem-solving and decision-making) necessary for effective management
  • Exhibit well-developed and professional interpersonal skills and display the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm

And have:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in related field; with a JD preferred
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in professional development, legal recruitment, or professional services
  • A minimum of four (4) years of management experience

Pay Range

USD $150,000.00 - USD $170,000.00 /Yr.
