JOB DESCRIPTION

The New York office of Alston & Bird LLP is searching for an entry-level paralegal to support our Litigation & Trial Practice group. Candidates should be self-starters, highly organized and team players. Candidates will thrive in an environment that focuses on various criminal litigation, class action litigation and electronic discovery processes. The paralegal will support our lawyers with various duties and responsibilities as listed below. All activities entail a high level of attorney contact and visibility. Overtime is often needed to meet client deadlines. Position is eligible for remote flexibility. Details will be discussed during the interview process.

Job Description:

  • Perform assigned legal research tasks using all various applications and library resources

  • Review and analyze matters to prepare status reports to attorneys and clients

  • Establish, organize, and maintain pleadings, attorney trial notebooks, expert witness notebooks, document indexes and lists

  • Participate in interviews of parties, witnesses, and experts and provide assistance with interview memos, written statements, and/or affidavits

  • Review and outline depositions, indexes and summarize documents

  • Provide administrative assistance for deposition and trial preparation

  • Assist attorney team and senior paralegals with various administrative tasks as needed

Skills needed to be successful:

  • Flexibility and the ability to work overtime are essential

  • Excellent time management and project management skills are required including ability to set and manage multiple priorities and make appropriate judgments.

  • Detail oriented, excellent oral and written communication and follow-up skills are crucial (spelling, grammar usage, writing skills, etc.).

  • A high level of energy and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment is essential, as is the ability to multi-task and prioritize.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to establish relationships, effectively liaise, communicate, and follow instructions from the client, attorneys, staff, and vendors and provide information with courtesy and tact

  • Commitment to providing superior customer service

  • Thorough knowledge of Firm systems, practices and procedures to effectively meet employee and department needs

  • Ability to work well under pressure.

Education

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree

  • Notary preferred

In accordance with the New York City Human Rights Law, the base salary range in New York City for this position is $60,000 to $75,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. This range is specific to New York City and may not be applicable to other locations.
