The Portland office seeks an employment attorney with experience in advising employers, drafting employment contracts and defending clients in litigation. Relying on our broad and diverse experience, our attorneys tailor advice and representation to our clients in multiple industries, including technology, retail, manufacturing, education, financial services, hospitality, environmental, transportation, and professional and engineering services. Our attorneys keep current on developing state and local laws and regulations. We seek candidates who have a willingness to take ownership for projects and cases, who are team oriented, collaborative and enjoy public speaking.

Job Responsibilities:

The position will be responsible for counseling HR professionals and business executives on compliance with federal, state and local employment laws, and providing strategic thinking in avoiding and resolving employment disputes. Successful candidate will also be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the litigation and administrative charge work, including preparing position statements, evaluating claims, handling mediation, taking depositions, engaging in motion practice, and preparing for and taking cases to arbitration and trial. The position will also be responsible for independently handling transactional matters, including drafting employment agreements and policies.

Qualifications:

Minimum

Active Oregon State Bar membership

At least four years of experience handling employment advice and litigation, including wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation and wage & hour claims

Management-side labor and employment counseling experience

Experience handling charges before the EEOC or state or local agencies

Experience drafting employment agreements and policies

Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently

Ability to handle a variety of matters simultaneously to meet client demands

Excellent research, writing, communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking

Desired

Active California State Bar membership with experience advising and litigating California wage and hour disputes

In-house or general counsel experience advising on multistate labor and employment matters

Proven track record as first or second chair in employment trials or arbitrations

Active practice with loyal clients
